Comprehensive Eye Exams
Regular eye exams are an essential component of preventative health care.
During a comprehensive eye exam, your ophthalmologist will test for common eye diseases, assess how your eyes function together, and more. Serious health issues like diabetes and high blood pressure are often first detected during an eye exam.
When was the last time you had a comprehensive eye exam? Don’t put it off — contact Kellis Eye & Laser Center to schedule your eye examination.
What Does A Comprehensive Eye Exam Include?
A comprehensive eye exam can include a variety of tests and may require your pupils to be dilated.
Your eye exam may include the following tests:
- Visual Acuity — to test how well you can see near and far
- Glaucoma — to measure the pressure in your eyes with a harmless puff of air
- Cover Test — to see if your eyes are working together
- Color Blindness — to assess if you can detect the full spectrum of colors
- Ophthalmoscopy — to examine blood vessels, retina, and optic nerve
- Slit Lamp — to screen for a variety of common eye diseases and conditions
- Visual Fields — to test for blind spots in your field of vision
- Retinal Photo Screening — to detect the presence of diabetic retinopathy
- Retinoscopy — to help estimate your prescription requirements for eyeglasses
- Movement Test — to see how well your eyes can track moving objects
- Depth Perception — to test your perception of depth
How Often Do I Need a Comprehensive Eye Exam?
In most cases, your eye doctor will recommend a yearly comprehensive eye exam. However, if you have underlying conditions that put you at a higher risk, more frequent exams may be recommended.
