Augustine J. Kellis, M.D.
Dr. Augustine J. Kellis is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship trained oculoplastic surgeon. He is a well-respected physician with over twenty-five years in his chosen specialties. He has performed over twenty thousand intraocular procedures and well over one hundred thousand eyelid and facial plastic surgical procedures.
Dr. Kellis earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University where he graduated with honors in seven different specialties. He completed his residency training in ophthalmology at the Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio, and served as chief resident. The completion of his formal education was the Tenzel Oculoplastic Surgical Fellowship in Miami, Florida.
Throughout his career, Dr. Kellis has served in numerous leadership roles including chief of Ophthalmology and head of oculoplastic surgery at University Hospital’s Geauga Medical Center from 1994 to 2009, the past medical director for the Center of Excellence in Ophthalmology at UHHS Geauga Medical Center. In addition he has served as the past director of oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery at Parschauer Eye Center in Sandusky, Ohio, and still serves as director of oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery at the Eye Care Associates in Youngstown, Ohio. Dr. Kellis is also the president and managing partner of the Chardon Surgery Center.
Dr. Kellis is an assistant clinical professor at Case Western Reserve University department of ophthalmology and also an assistant clinical professor at Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Kellis is well known for his exceptional medical and surgical expertise and his warm, personable bedside manner. Dr. Kellis enjoys spending time with his wife, Mary, and his twin daughters, Marina and Evangeline. He also enjoys traveling, jet skiing, boating, and snorkeling.
Awards/Recognition
Dr. Kellis was elected to Strathmore’s Who’s Who Among Medical Professionals. In addition, his peers have voted him into the prestigious Castle Connolly Top Doctors in Ohio for fifteen consecutive years. He was also voted one of the Top Docs in America and Top Cosmetic Surgeons in America and was among U.S. News and World Report’s top ophthalmologic and oculoplastic surgeons in America. Recently, Dr. Kellis was also recognized among Cleveland Magazine’s Best Doctors.
Humanitarian/Outreach Efforts
Dr. Kellis founded the St. Michael’s Eye Program, which provides eye care services to anyone in need at no cost. This program was established twenty-five years ago and has served the needs of thousands of patients in northern Ohio. Recently, he was honored as the Eagle Vision Award recipient. This award is given by the charity, Sight for All, to the one eye care professional in northern Ohio who has provided the most charitable services over the course of a year. In addition, he serves on the board of the Geauga Hunger Task Force helping to organize over six hundred thousand free meals given to the families of Geauga County on a yearly basis.
Fun Fact
He is a former accomplished amateur bodybuilder and still engages in weight training and cardiovascular exercise, including cycling and power yoga.
